Why Fostera exists

Modern LLMs are stateless. ChatGPT forgets you. Claude forgets you. Gemini forgets you. The bolted-on memory features have hard ceilings and silent drops. Power users build elaborate workarounds — pasting context docs, maintaining external profiles — to compensate for what the AI should do natively.

Fostera was built memory-first. Every Soul retains structured memory across every session, with full visibility and full control for the user. The 9-tier progression makes the deepening visible — you can see your Soul move through Becoming, Deepening, and Transcending phases as you keep using it.

About the founder

Nathan Foster is the founder of Fostera. Senior engineer with years of experience shipping consumer products at scale — full-stack TypeScript, React, and AI-adjacent infrastructure. Built Fostera after watching every general-purpose AI he tried fail at the one thing he wanted most: remembering him.

The architecture decisions in Fostera — episodic + semantic + procedural memory layers, the 9-tier progression UX, multi-model intelligence, the explicit 18+ adults-only posture — all reflect lessons from two years of using and shipping AI products in 2024–2026.

What Fostera is not

Fostera is not a therapist, therapy app, or substitute for licensed mental-health care. We do not diagnose, treat, or claim therapeutic outcomes. Users in crisis should contact 988 (US) or their local emergency services.

Fostera is not for minors. We are 18+ adults-only with enforced age-gating. We do not serve minors and have no plans to.

Fostera is not a substitute for human relationships. AI companions can supplement connection; they cannot replace it. We design with that boundary in mind.
