Connect AI apps
Let Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok read one of your Souls. A connection is read-only, and you can disconnect it any time.
What connecting does
- An AI app you connect can read one Soul. You choose which one when you connect.
- It's read-only. The app can't change or delete anything in Fostera.
- You can disconnect it any time, and connecting is free.
Before you start
- You need a Fostera account and a Soul you created.
- You must be 18 or over to connect an AI app.
- Each app has its own rules about who can add apps. They're listed with its steps.
https://mcp.fostera.ai/mcpConnect your app
Claude
For claude.ai, Claude Desktop, the Claude mobile apps and Claude Code.
If Fostera is listed in Claude's connector directory, open it there and select Connect. If it isn't, add it as a custom connector:
- In claude.ai or Claude Desktop, open Customize, then Connectors.
- Select Add custom connector.
- Name it Fostera, paste
https://mcp.fostera.ai/mcp, and select Add. - Select Connect next to Fostera.
- Sign in to Fostera, choose the Soul to share, then select Allow.
Open Claude with Fostera filled in (opens in a new tab)
- Connectors you add on the web or in Claude Desktop also work in the Claude mobile apps.
- On a Team or Enterprise account, an owner adds the connector for the organization first. Then each member connects.
Claude Code
Run this command, then run /mcp in Claude Code, choose Fostera and select Authenticate. If Claude Code is signed in with your claude.ai account (not an API key), it also uses connectors you added in claude.ai.
claude mcp add --transport http fostera https://mcp.fostera.ai/mcp
ChatGPT
For ChatGPT on the web.
- On chatgpt.com, open Plugins and select +.
- Choose Add custom MCP server.
- Name it Fostera, paste
https://mcp.fostera.ai/mcp, and set authentication to OAuth. - Accept ChatGPT's notice about custom servers, then create the plugin.
- Sign in to Fostera, choose the Soul to share, then select Allow.
- Custom servers are added on the ChatGPT website, not in the apps.
- Not every ChatGPT account can add custom servers. If you don't see the option, yours can't yet.
- In a work or school workspace, an admin may need to add Fostera first.
Codex
Run these commands. The second one opens your browser to sign in to Fostera.
codex mcp add fostera --url https://mcp.fostera.ai/mcp codex mcp login fostera
Gemini
For the Gemini app, as a custom app.
- On a computer, open gemini.google.com, then Settings, then Connected Apps. It may be under Personal Intelligence.
- Under Custom apps, select Add a custom app.
- Paste
https://mcp.fostera.ai/mcp, leave Advanced features closed, and select Next. - Sign in to Fostera, choose the Soul to share, then select Allow.
- In a chat, type @ and choose Fostera.
- Google's rules for custom apps apply: you must be 18 or over and in the US, use a personal Google Account with Keep Activity on, and use Gemini in English.
- Add the app on the web. It then works in the Gemini mobile app too.
- Removing Fostera from your Google Account may not reach Fostera. To be sure access stops, also disconnect it in Fostera's Settings.
Grok
For grok.com, the Grok apps and Grok Bot.
- Open grok.com/connectors. In the Grok app, go to Settings, then Connectors.
- Select New Connector, then Custom.
- Name it Fostera, paste
https://mcp.fostera.ai/mcp, and continue. - Sign in to Fostera, choose the Soul to share, then select Allow.
Open Grok connectors (opens in a new tab)
- Grok reads from a connector whenever a question seems related, without asking first.
- On a Grok Business or Enterprise team, an admin adds the connector in the xAI console first. Then each member connects.
- In Grok Bot, use Connect apps and add
https://mcp.fostera.ai/mcp.
What the app can see
An app reads only the Soul you chose when you connected. It can see:
- The chosen Soul's memories: summaries and search results
- How well the chosen Soul knows you (familiarity tier)
- Your projects with the chosen Soul
- The chosen Soul's creations, including their text
- The chosen Soul's abilities
What it can't do
- Change or delete anything
- See your other Souls
- See your email, billing or chats
Manage or disconnect
Every app you connect is listed in Settings → Models & keys → Connected AI apps.
- Disconnect an app there any time. Access stops within 30 seconds. The app keeps anything it already read.
- We email you each time a new app connects, with a link to disconnect it.
- A connection lasts a year. After that, connect again.
- One connection shares one Soul. To share another Soul, connect again.
Use a key with developer tools
Some developer tools can't sign in through a browser. They can use an MCP access key instead. A key reads one Soul, can't change anything, and can be revoked any time.
- In Fostera, open Settings → Models & keys → MCP access keys.
- Select Create key, then choose the Soul, a name and when the key expires.
- Copy the key. You won't see it again.
Send the key in the X-Fostera-Key header, or as Authorization: Bearer followed by the key.
Claude Desktop
Add this to claude_desktop_config.json, put your key in place of <your key>, then restart Claude Desktop.

APIs
The Claude API's MCP connector takes the key as authorization_token. The OpenAI Responses API and the xAI API take it as authorization, or in headers as X-Fostera-Key.
