Microsoft's consumer Copilot app — not GitHub Copilot — pairs a strong no-training default with editable memory, but requires a Microsoft account. Compare five alternatives.

Caveat: Memory of past chats and Personal Intelligence require an adult personal account with Keep Activity on.
Strength: Empathetic conversational tone with documented cross-chat memory controls.
Caveat: A single general-purpose companion rather than a custom character or project workspace.

Is Microsoft Copilot the same as GitHub Copilot?
No. This page is about the consumer Copilot app at copilot.microsoft.com, which Microsoft describes as everyday chat, voice, images, and file help. GitHub Copilot is a separate coding product with its own plans and terms, so compare that one against developer tools instead.
Does Microsoft Copilot use my conversations to train AI?
Microsoft says prompts, responses, and file contents in the Copilot app aren't used to train foundation models, and a Privacy setting opts conversation activity out of AI model training. Microsoft adds that opting out does not exclude that activity from product improvement, advertising, safety, security, and compliance.
Does Microsoft Copilot remember me between chats?
Yes. Microsoft says Copilot remembers key details and preferences such as communication style, favorite topics, goals, and recurring tasks, and that you can view, edit, and delete what it remembers under Personalization and memory. Microsoft notes that deleting memory does not delete your conversation history.
Can I export my Microsoft Copilot data?
Microsoft's privacy dashboard has a Copilot app activity history section where Export all activity history downloads a CSV and Delete all activity history clears it.
