Compare Pi's empathetic conversation and cross-chat memory with Fostera's custom Souls, project context, editable selective memory, utility presets, and visible progression.
| Feature | Fostera | Pi (Inflection) |
|---|---|---|
| Persistent long-term memory | Selective Soul and project memory that users can inspect, edit, and delete; relevance-based retrieval can miss details | Selective memory across chats that users can see, edit, or clear; Pi says a request may need repeating to lock in a memory |
| Project organization | Separate projects with sources and persistent context | One general-purpose companion rather than separate project workspaces |
| Empathetic conversational tone | Configurable through presets and custom Souls | Central to Pi's product positioning |
| Custom personality builder | Custom Souls with rules that guide behavior; output can still drift | One Pi identity rather than a custom-character builder |
| Mobile-first PWA | Yes — install from any browser | Web and supported mobile apps |
| Visible progression | 9-tier evolution | No directly comparable public nine-tier relationship system documented |
| Export and import | No structured Pi (Inflection) import is available. Start fresh or paste selected conversation text at /switch and review the extracted context. | No documented bulk export; check Pi's current data controls before relying on moving history |
Pi already offers selective cross-chat memory that users can see, edit, and clear. Fostera differs through custom Souls, projects, utility roles, visible progression, and Premium manual selection among eligible engines.
